William Foster New

Rocky Mount - William Foster "Bill" New, age 86, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Rocky Mount Rehabilitation Center. Born in Cumberland County, NC on January 16, 1933 but was a lifelong resident of Rocky Mount, he was the son of the late J.H. and Etta Campbell New. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Pattie Taylor New; his sisters and brothers, Harvey Lee New, Louise Beck, Henrietta Ray, Horace New, Marshall New, Robert New, Myrtle Pittman, Hazel Hardee and Cecil New. Bill leaves behind to cherish his memory, children of his previous marriage, Sandra Shafer (Charles), Eddie New (Robin), Zeda Cagle (Donnie), step-children, Donnie Winders (Rita), Rose Edwards (Tommy), Cathy Hollifield (James), Ronnie Winders (Jamie) and Jo Boyette (Butch). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law's and brother-in-law's, Dorothy Stallings (Jim), Mary Alice Hodges, Billy Taylor (Jessie Dean), Ray Taylor (Jean) and Faye Taylor. Bill loved his work of running heavy equipment and gardening when he was able. He loved riding horses, bird hunting and wearing cowboy hats, watching wrestling and old westerns. He and mama loved taking trips, especially to Walt Disney World. Bill was mechanically inclined and could fix anything that was broke. He was a member of Oak View Baptist Church. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon at Johnson Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 12:00 noon in the Chapel. There will be a private burial. Flowers are welcomed or memorial contributions can be made to the Oak View Baptist Church Building Fund.
