LITTLETON – Luther S. Turner, Jr., age 96, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026. Born in Fulton County, GA on October 6, 1929, he was the son of the late Luther Sohmerfield Turner and Dorothy Norris Turner. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Helen Jeanne Lamb.

Luther was a devoted family man, proud veteran, and faithful servant who lived a life centered around family, faith, friendship, and community.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years, a service he carried with great pride throughout his life. Luther loved his family dearly and treasured time spent with those closest to him. A very social and outgoing person, he genuinely enjoyed being around others, making friends, and sharing fellowship wherever he went.

His faith was an important part of his life. Until his declining health, Luther was a devoted and active member of the Church of the Incarnation in Highlands, North Carolina, where he served in many capacities, including as Junior Warden.

Luther was also active in the Rotary Club and enjoyed serving his community. He loved the outdoors and hiking and was a member of the Over the Hill, or “OTH,” Hiking Club in Highlands. He was also an avid runner holding the 85 and over record for many years in the local 5k annual race.

Luther will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Luther is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ann Dellinger Turner; son, Luther Sohmerfield Turner, III “Trey” (Kimberly); daughters, Lynn Lachance, and Leigh Trant (Thomas); grandchildren, Annie Lachance (Dylan Huffman), Tyler Trant (Keelie Carroll), Miller Trant (Emily), Sarah Turner, and one great-grandchild, Gwendolyn Talbot Trant; nephew, Will Lamb (Gina).

A private service for the family will take place next summer in the family’s cemetery behind the church in the Wildwood.
