Ricky Felton Wood - "R.W."

Spring Hope—Ricky Felton Wood, age 67, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Ricky’s greatest accomplishment in life was his family. He was a graduate of Wood’s Christian Life & Home School and worked for Square D for 24 years. During his time there, Ricky did a little bit of everything. He started as a Tow Motor Driver and worked his way through many different departments, including Molding, Chemicals, operating various machines, and packing on every shift. He was never afraid of hard work and took pride in learning how to do whatever job was put in front of him.

Ricky was also deeply involved in the Boy Scouts. He served as Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster for Troop 148 in Spring Hope, NC, for many years. He loved camping, spending time with the Boy Scouts, and most of all, sharing those experiences with his son. He especially enjoyed being part of the “Dunkey” Patrol. Ricky also took great pride in being a spectacular Dance Daddy, even dancing on stage when his daughter graduated. Those are memories his family will treasure forever.

Ricky was a true “Nash County Farmer.” He worked hard alongside his farm brother, Jerome Johnson, doing whatever needed to be done, whether it was spraying tobacco, discing land, sewing wheat, planting soybeans, harvesting sweet potatoes, or working on tractors. He especially loved driving his Ford Tractor 8630. Farming was more than work to Ricky; it was a way of life.

Ricky was a dedicated Husband, Daddy, Bock Bock, Uncle, UR, Uncle Bock Bock, and Friend. He was known by some as “Tricky Rick,” a nickname that fit his personality perfectly. He loved to laugh, work hard, spend time with the people he loved, and make memories with his family.

Ricky is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47-plus years, Judy Garlene Powell Wood. She was his loyal and faithful caregiver, always searching for the correct answers and making sure his needs were met. She was his Protective Edge, loving and caring for him with sacrificial love and unwavering devotion.

He is also survived by his son, James Felton “Crane” Wood (Jenny) Daughter-in-love, and daughter, Chassidy Garlene Wood; and his grandchildren, Caden Crane Wood (Boo Boo), Bryson Chase Matthews (Bry Bug), Wyatt James Wood (Wy Wy), Connor Ethan Starling (Long Legs), Carter Grayson Wood (Car Car), Gracie Kate Wood (Princess), and Mathew Garland Wells Wood (Little G).

He is also survived by his mother, Alice Joyner Hock; sisters, Pam Wood and Janice Peoples; sisters-in-love, Brenda Boyd (Michael Murray), Linda Giles, and Betty Joyner; brother-in-love, Corney Joyner; and many nieces and nephews, including many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews, daughters in love, Mandy Wood and Tracey Manning; sons in love, Tyler Jenkins, and Eric Matthews, who also held a special place in his heart.

Ricky was preceded in death by his Daddy, Bob Wood; his “Ma,” Ruth Tyson Powell; brothers-in-love Tommy Batchelor, Bill Giles, and Paul Boyd; nephew Bobby Gagnon; sister Linda Waiden; and Maurice Hock.

Ricky leaves behind a lifetime of memories, stories, hard work, laughter, and love. His family will remember him not only for all that he did, but for who he was: a devoted husband, Daddy, Bock Bock, Farmer, Scoutmaster, Dance Daddy, Uncle, and UR, Uncle Bock Bock and Friend to many.

Above all, Ricky loved his family, and they loved him deeply. His legacy will live on through the family he cherished, the lessons he taught, the memories he created, and the love he gave so freely.

He has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior, but his family will carry his memory in their hearts until they meet again.
