ROCKY MOUNT – Lois Jean Matthews Farmer, age 95, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025. Born in Nash County, NC on November 28, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Haywood Matthews and Iva Frances Winstead Matthews.   She was also preceded in death by her husband, Milton Gene Farmer, Sr.; sister, Margaret Mayo; brothers, Gilford Matthews, Roger Matthews, and James Matthews.

Lois was a woman of great faith. In her early years she attended Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church, and after marriage she attended West Mount Emmanuel Holiness Church. Lois enjoyed gardening whether it was growing vegetables or flowers, she could spend the day outside tending to her garden. When Lois was not in her garden she could be found sewing. She received many compliments from visitors and hospice staff about the beauty of her quilt which she made for her bed. Lois was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her, but her loving spirit will never be forgotten as she was everything to her family.

Lois is survived by her children, Jeanie Farmer, Linda Schroeder (Paul), Donna Beecham (Jonathan), Milton Gene Farmer, Jr., and Bobby Farmer (Kim); grandchildren, Kelly Adams (Hajj), Serena Gunther, Crystal Ali (Baba), Charlotte Dominguez (Jose), Tabatha Froland (Eric), Beth Farmer, Allie Farmer, and Lindsay Farmer; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Gunther, Willie Pittman (Ashely), Crystal Pace (Zac), Michael Gunther, Raven Reason (Paul), James Garrett, Jordyn Outlaw, Justin Hopkins, JaRode Garrett,  Lacie Outlaw, Brandon Froland, Jak Smith, Avery Linn, Autumn Linn, Alyssa Linn, Austin Linn, and Forest Linn; great-great grandchildren, Sadie Pittman, Kari Outlaw, Kameron Garrett, Jaxon Pittman, Kailoh Outlaw, Faith Garrett, and Zyaire Outlaw; brother, Winston Matthews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 661 English Road Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Pastor JC Coats officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Forest Hill Cemetery, 350 N. 1st Street, Nashville, NC 27856. The visitation will be Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Chaple of Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
