ELM CITY – Jonathan Michael Owens, age 25, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025. Born in Wilson County, NC on April 4, 2000, he is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Peggy Winstead.

Jonathan’s infectious laugh and bright smile will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jonathan was a true enthusiast of life, finding joy in every moment. His passion for sports was evident from a young age; whether he was on the basketball court sinking a three-pointer, throwing a touchdown pass on the football field, or hitting a home run on the baseball field, Jonathan approached every game with enthusiasm and competitive spirit. A dedicated LeBron James fan, he could often be found discussing the latest Lakers game, and his loyalty to the Pittsburgh Steelers was unwavering, even throughout the toughest seasons.

Beyond the thrill of the game, Jonathan cherished his family above all else. He was a loving son, grandson and brother, always ready with a helping hand or a comforting word. He found peace and solitude in fishing, spending countless hours by the water, a testament to his patient and contemplative side. Jonathan also had a hidden talent for singing, often serenading those around him with impromptu performances that were sure to bring a smile to their faces.

But perhaps Jonathan’s greatest gift was his ability to make people laugh and smile. His quick wit, playful teasing, and genuine warmth made him a beloved presence in any gathering. He had a knack for lifting spirits and brightening even the darkest days.

He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and a life lived to the fullest. Though his time with us was brief, Jonathan’s impact was profound. We will forever carry his memory in our hearts.

Jonathan is survived by his father, John Allen Owens (Becky); mother, Jean Michelle Winstead; sister, Allyson Jade Owens; maternal grandfather, Michael Winstead; paternal grandparents, Melvin and Bonnie Owens; aunt, Melissa Daniels (Ray); uncles, Chris Owens (Jackie), Jamie Owens (Tonya), and several beloved cousins.
