Jean Peedin Sanderson

Resided in: Rocky Mount, North Carolina

ROCKY MOUNT – Jean Peedin Sanderson, age 80, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025.  Born in Johnston County, NC on January 25, 1945, she was the daughter of the late William Daniel Peedin and Ila Belle Anderson Peedin.  She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Shampine; and her sister, Marie Umphlet.

Jean graduated from Tarboro High School, where she shined as the Chief Majorette in the school band. Her grace, dedication, and spirit were evident even then, and those qualities continued to define her life.

Jean met the love of her life, Jerry, when she was just 13 years old. The two were inseparable from that moment on, building a beautiful life together over the course of their 51 years of marriage. They shared a passion for dancing – especially line dancing and partner dancing – and could often be found twirling across the floor with joy and ease.

A woman of deep faith, Jean was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was baptized in 1969. She lived her beliefs with humility and devotion, finding comfort in her spiritual family and hope in God’s promises.

Jean was an avid reader who loved mystery and romance novels. She also enjoyed the quiet pleasure of creating art through color-by-number on her tablet. At home, she found constant companionship and affection in her beloved cats, seven of whom she leaves behind.

Jean will be remembered for her warmth, her laughter, and the way she poured love into every part of her life – her marriage, her friendships, her faith, and her hobbies.

Jean is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jerry Thomas Sanderson; her daughter, Terri West, and husband Michael, of Rocky Mount, NC; her grandson, Andy Morris; her great-grandchildren, Gabriel Morris and Islaia West; her sister, Betty Gay; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
