NASHVILLE – Milton Thomas Wiggins, Jr. age 64, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Born in Hertford County, NC on May 6, 1961, he was the son of the late Milton Thomas Wiggins and Patsy Victoria Edwards Wiggins. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ernest Rudolph Edwards, Sr., and Lillian Marie Richardson Edwards; paternal grandparents, Clayton Henry Wiggins, and Ethel Brake Wiggins.
Milton attended Frederick Military Academy in Portsmouth, Virginia, where he developed the discipline and leadership skills that would guide him throughout his life. He went on to graduate from North Carolina Wesleyan College.
For 30 years, Milton faithfully served the Rocky Mount Police Department, retiring in 2014 after a distinguished career protecting and serving his community. His commitment to excellence and his calm, steady presence earned him the respect of colleagues and citizens alike.
In addition to his police work, Milton was passionate about education and training. For more than 25 years, he served as a Criminal Justice Instructor, sharing his knowledge of firearms and law enforcement driver’s training with countless students. His impact reached far beyond the classroom, shaping future generations of law enforcement professionals.
Milton will be remembered for his strong sense of duty, his unwavering dedication to others, and his genuine kindness. His legacy of service and mentorship lives on in the many lives he touched.
Milton is survived by his children, son, Milton Thomas Wiggins III (Trey); daughter, Kirsten Lawson Wiggins; brother, Stephen Wiggins (Tiffany); sister, Amy Wiggins Verry (Rich); nephew, Matthew Murdock; nieces, Mallori Murdock, Molly Murdock, Alex Pickard, Camryn Wiggins, Kelyn Wiggins; one great-niece and four great-nephews.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Milton’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 661 English Road Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Dr. John Check and Neal Boone officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service.
