ROCKY MOUNT – John “Matthew” Galloway, age 36, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2025. Born in New Hanover County, NC on October 1, 1989, he was the son of the late John Lemuel Galloway and Barbara Ann Iversen Galloway.

Matthew was a man whose life was rooted in love—love for his family, love for animals, and love for the beauty he helped grow in the world around him. He had a deep passion for plants, horticulture, and landscape design, finding peace and purpose in nurturing living things and transforming indoor and outdoor spaces into places of beauty.

His knowledge and appreciation of the natural world were evident in everything he touched, and his work reflected both his skill and his care. Matthew approached life much the same way he approached his plants – with patience, dedication, and a gentle hand.

Above all, Matthew loved his family. They were the heart of his life, and his devotion to them was unwavering. He was a source of support, kindness, and quiet strength, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Matthew will be remembered for his warm spirit, his love of nature, and the lasting impressions he left on the lives he touched. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Matthew is survived by his sisters, Melissa Huffman of Gastonia, NC, and Diana Nicole Galloway of Rocky Mount, NC; niece, Madelyn Hales; nephew, Alex Hales; his dear friend Anna Cook, and her daughter, Ily, whom he loved as his own, and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at 12:00 PM till 4:00 PM at Cape Fear Botanical Gardens, 536 N Eastern Blvd. Fayetteville, NC 28301.

Flowers are welcome.
