Allen Leo Taylor

ROCKY MOUNT – Allen Leo Taylor, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 29, 2026. Born in Rocky Mount on April 16, 1936. He was the son of the late Paul Allen Taylor and Mamie Bryant Taylor. He was also preceded in death by infant son Kenneth Allen Taylor, infant daughter Cyinthia Jo Taylor and beloved niece Paula Burnette Vick.

Allen served briefly in the Army before family responsibilities required him to return home. In his early years he worked as an automotive mechanic at various businesses, the last being Ray Bandy Dodge. He always strived to better himself and his family. He earned his High School Diploma and his Associate’s Degree in Applied Science at night while working full time. He then taught for 29 yrs. at Edgecombe Community College as an automotive instructor. He retired from there in 2001. Allen loved working with his hands, fishing, helping others and above all his family. As his health declined, he would always ask about others in his family and in his church family at the Salvation Army. He would always say “Tell them I love them”. He was the rock of his family, and his absence will be felt until the day we are all together in Heaven with Christ.

Allen is survived by his wife of 68 yrs. Wiverly V. Taylor, daughter Patricia Taylor, sister Velma Burnette, and nieces: Denise Creekmore, Beth Burnette, Cristie Boone, and fur baby Ike.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 661 English Road Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Major Al Smith officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. A visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM prior to the service in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
