Barbara Sykes Andrews

ROCKY MOUNT – Barbara Sykes Andrews, age 68, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2026. Born in Nash County, NC on April 8, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Robert Edward Sykes and Mabel Louise Coley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Andrews, and daughter Ashley Stockton.

Born and raised in Tarboro, North Carolina, Barbara carried the warmth and charm of her hometown with her everywhere she went. She had a deep love for music that shaped much of her life, especially the timeless sounds of Elton John and Elvis Presley. Their songs were often the soundtrack to her days, bringing her comfort and happiness.

Barbara also had a special appreciation for the music of John Mellencamp, whose heartfelt lyrics and rhythms matched her love of dancing. She found joy on the dance floor, where her spirit truly came alive, sharing laughter and movement with those around her.

She had a passion for travel and cherished every opportunity to explore new places. One of her most meaningful journeys was to Graceland, a place that held special significance to her as a devoted Elvis fan. She also enjoyed trips to New York and Florida, embracing the excitement, beauty, and memories each destination brought.

Barbara will be remembered for her vibrant personality, her love of music and dancing, and her adventurous spirit. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures and created lasting memories with those who knew and loved her.

Barbara is survived by her son, Lance Mewborn; daughters, Cynthia Coley (Charles) and Amanda Baynor; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Miriam Pridgen, Janice Price; brothers, Robert Sykes (Joan), William David Sykes (Barbara), Milton Sykes (Cynthia), and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 661 English Road Rocky Mount, NC 27804. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.  A visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45PM prior to the service in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
