Resided in: Rocky Mount, North Carolina

ROCKY MOUNT – Carol Lee Matheson Sharette, age 80, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2025.  Born in Albany County, WY on October 9, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Robert E. Matheson and Tommy Gay Pitchford Veach. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Roberta Quarles, and two brothers, Michael Swan and Robert Donley.

Carol was a woman of quiet strength, deep love, and many cherished passions. She found joy in the simple comforts of life—curling up with a good book, especially those written by her favorite author, Stephen King, or settling in to watch her beloved crime shows.

Carol had a true gift in the kitchen. She loved to cook and bake, and nothing brought her family together quite like her famous fry bread, a favorite that will forever be remembered at family gatherings. She also enjoyed sewing, creating with care and patience, always putting love into everything she made.

Above all else, Carol’s heart belonged to her family. Her grandchildren were truly the apple of her eye, and she spoke of them—and her great-grandchildren—often and with immense pride. Being a grandmother and great-grandmother was one of her greatest joys, and her love for them was boundless.

Carol also had a special place in her heart for her dogs, who were constant companions and brought her great comfort and happiness.

She will be remembered for her warmth, her devotion to family, and the love she so freely gave. Carol will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and the many memories she leaves behind.

A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend to many, Carol will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Carol is survived by her daughters, Gaylene Post (Brent) and Robbinn Sharette; her sons, Troy Willoughby (Lauri) and Clint Willoughby (Debbie); several grandchildren and several great grandchildren; her sisters, Mary Katherine Berhardt and Susan Humphries; her brothers, Stephen Rogers, Robert B. Veach, Ross Veach, Randy Veach, and Richard Veach; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dearest friends.

Arrangements entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.  You may share memories and condolences with the family by visiting www.johnsonfuneralsandcremations.com.
