PINETOPS – Darrell Ray Botoms, age 50, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025. Born in Nash County, NC on July 31, 1975, he was the son of the late Donald Ray Bottoms and Beverly Gail Cary Bottoms. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Pency Cary.
Darrell was known for his laughter, curiosity, and unforgettable stories. Born with an adventurous spirit and a collector’s heart, he found joy in treasures both old and new. Whether it was comic books, sports cards, antique toys, or any of the countless pieces he lovingly gathered over the years, Darrell saw value where others saw only objects. Each item he collected carried a memory, a moment, or a feeling he wanted to hold on to.
He was a man who could turn an ordinary day into something worth remembering. With a comedian’s wit and a gift for making people smile, Darrell had a way of lightening even the heaviest moments. His humor – sharp, playful, and always well-timed remains one of the many things those who loved him will miss most.
When he wasn’t sharing a joke or hunting for his next rare find, Darrell found peace by the water with a fishing pole in hand. Fishing wasn’t just a hobby for him – it was a place to breathe, reflect, and enjoy the quiet beauty of the world. He was also a devoted fan of anime, captivated by the stories, characters, and artistry that spoke to his imagination and youthful heart.
Darrell worked tirelessly throughout his life. Known for his dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic, he gave his best to everything he did. Even when life demanded much of him, he always made time for the people and passions he cared about most.
He leaves behind family, friends, and loved ones who will remember him for his humor, his generosity, and the way he lived life fully and authentically. Though his presence will be deeply missed, the memories he created – through laughter, shared adventures, and countless collectibles – will continue to bring comfort for years to come.
Darrell is survived by his sister, Wendy Squires (Jeffrey); nieces, Haley Sumerlin and Shannon Sumerlin; uncles, Roger Cary (Wanda), Stanley Cary (Debbie), and Phillip Cary.
