ROCKY MOUNT – Elwood Norris Hardison, age 80, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025. Born in Lenoir County, NC on January 26, 1945, he was the son of the late Harvey Lamb Hardison and Emma Jane Dunn. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Lucille Horrell, Dollie Harper, and his brothers Clarence Hardison, Thomas Hardison, Matthew Hardison, and Homer Clyde Hardison.
A man of quiet strength and a big heart, Elwood lived a life rooted in love, hard work, and simple joys.
Elwood especially cherished his great nieces, loving them as if they were his very own grandchildren. His family was the center of his world, and he delighted in every moment spent with them.
A man of many talents, Elwood could often be found “piddling” around the house, always fixing, improving, or taking care of something that needed attention. He took great pride in his craft as a ceramic tile worker, leaving behind beautiful work that spoke to his skill and dedication.
When he wasn’t working with his hands, Elwood enjoyed the quiet peace of fishing and the excitement of watching a good boxing match. He also loved traveling with his beloved wife, creating memories together on their many adventures. Some of his happiest times were spent at pig pickings, surrounded by family, friends, food, and laughter.
Faith was always a cornerstone of Elwood’s life. He was a long-time and faithful member of McKendree Methodist Church, where he found strength in his relationship with God and joy in the fellowship of his church family.
Elwood’s kindness, humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed, but the love he shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Elwood is survived by his wife, Louise Hardison; sons, Steven Hardison (John Patterson), and Mark Hardison; great nieces, Fayth, Skylar, Delilah; special nephews, Dale, Freddy, Brad, Steven, Christopher, and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 2:30 PM in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Mark Clark officiating.
