ROCKY MOUNT – Ida Couser Acompora, age 70, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026. Born in Albany, NY on October 20, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Allan Augustus Couser and Evelyn Sutton Couser. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank Acompora, Sr.; brother, Allan Couser; and her sister, Margeret Morrison.
Ida passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and quiet strength that touched all who knew her.
For many years, Ida faithfully served as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Eden Park Nursing Home in Hudson, New York. She cared for her residents with compassion and dignity, treating each person as if they were family. Her gentle spirit and patient heart made a lasting difference in the lives of those entrusted to her care.
Ida was a devoted member of her Methodist Church in Athens, New York, where she lifted her voice in song as a member of the church chorus. Music brought her joy, and she found comfort and community in worship and fellowship.
In her leisure time, Ida delighted in simple pleasures. She loved working on jigsaw puzzles and challenging herself with word search games. She was an avid fan of classic films and could happily spend an afternoon watching old movies, especially her favorite, Gone with the Wind. Above all else, she treasured her family. Ida never missed an opportunity to talk about her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.
Several years ago, while visiting her dear friend, Phyllis Cooper, Ida fell in love with the beauty and warmth of North Carolina. What began as a visit soon became a new chapter, and she made North Carolina her home, embracing the community and friendships she found there.
Ida will be remembered for her loving heart, her steady faith, her joyful conversations, and the way she made others feel seen and valued. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
Ida is survived by her daughter, Karen Higgins; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Lyza Zeppetello, and husband Joseph, Doris Couser, and Teresa Couser; her niece, Nicole Mauer; and her best friend, Phyllis Cooper.
