Isla May Nicometi

CLAYTON – Isla May Nicometi, age 89, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025.  Born in Niagara County, NY on April 29, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Peter Meahl and Henrietta Louise Schneider Cook.  She was also preceded in death by her son, Charles Nicometi; and sister, Francis Heaton.

Isla was a devoted and cherished member of Proctor’s Chapel Baptist Church. Her beautiful voice filled the sanctuary as a faithful member of the choir, bringing joy and inspiration to the congregation. Isla’s dedication extended beyond her musical talents; she was also a valued member of the Bread Ladies Ministry. Isla also was a longtime volunteer at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount as a way of giving back to her community. She possessed a creative soul and found solace and joy in her many crafts. When she wasn’t crafting, Isla could often be found immersed in the challenge and satisfaction of completing word puzzles. Her kindness and unwavering faith touched the lives of countless individuals within her community. Isla was a beacon of light, offering comfort and support to those in need. Her memory will be forever cherished family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

Isla is survived by her daughter, Darla McClaren, and husband David; her sons, Andrew Nicometi, Thomas Nicometi, and wife, Christine, Russell Nicometi, and Timothy Nicometi, and wife, Jennifer; her grandchildren, Stefanie, Laura, Chelsea, Connor, Alan, Rachel, Dylan and Ty; her great-grandchildren, Cameron, Paige, Caiden, Aaliyah and Ava; and her sister, Flora Walsh and Betty Young.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Isla’s life will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Bruce Brumfield officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service in the Parlor of Johnson Funeral Home.
