BATTLEBORO – Shawn Maurice Hillis, age 56, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025. Born in McMinnville, TN on June 5, 1969, he was the son of the late Earl Dentin Hillis and Sandra Malone Ainsley. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Thomas H. Ainsley, Jr.; aunts, Diana Outlaw, and Jean Malone.
Shawn will be remembered as a gentle soul who found peace and joy in the quiet beauty of the world around him. A man of few words, he lived life with a calm spirit and an appreciation for the simple things that mattered most.
He had a deep love for fishing and the outdoors, spending countless hours by the water or in nature, where he felt most at home. Shawn’s quiet strength and steady presence touched those who knew him, offering comfort without the need for many words.
Though reserved, his family and friends knew the depth of his care through his actions and the time he shared with them. His memory will be carried forward in every sunrise over a lake, every cast of a fishing line, and every peaceful walk outdoors.
Shawn’s life was a reminder that happiness can be found in stillness, and that love doesn’t always need to be spoken to be deeply felt. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
Shawn is survived by his brother Thomas Ainsley and wife Kylie; nephew, Coldy Ainsley; nieces, Mac, Maddie, Malynda and Melody Ainsley; grandma, Kathie; uncle, Milton Malone; aunt, Gloria and uncle Jackie Gibbs; stepsister, Sherrie McClenny; along with multiple cousins and friends.
