Resided in: Rocky Mount, North Carolina

ROCKY MOUNT – Sook Fong Lee, age 77, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026. Born in China on April 16, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Fat Yee Lew and Yam Shui Lew.

Sook passed away surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and community that will long be remembered.

For more than 30 years, Sook and her family were the proud owners of China Inn in Rocky Mount, a place that became much more than a restaurant—it was a gathering spot filled with familiar faces, friendly smiles, and heartfelt conversations. Rocky Mount was home to Sook for over 50 years, and she truly loved the town and its people.

Sook had a joyful spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. She loved to joke, laugh, and make others smile. She had a gift for remembering people in her own special way—she may not always have known everyone’s name, but she never forgot their favorite order. To many, she felt like family.

She had a deep love for children and found joy in sewing, a hobby that reflected her patience, creativity, and care for others. Above all else, Sook loved her family dearly. They were the center of her world, and her devotion to them was evident in everything she did.

Sook will be deeply missed by her family, friends, customers, and the countless lives she touched throughout the years. Her warmth, laughter, and generous heart will forever remain in the memories of those who knew and loved her.

Sook is survived by her husband, Kam Hung Lee; son, Danie Lee (Holly Ann); daughter, Sharon Lee; granddaughter, Camryn Lee; brother, Toy Lew (Mei); several brothers – and sisters-in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive friends and family on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 11 AM – 12 PM in the Parlor of Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 661 English Road Rocky Mount, NC 27804. Burial will follow the visitation at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Kam and family, we are so sorry for the loss of Sue. It was so long ago when I was a waitress at China Inn and Sue taught me about Chinese food. We always enjoyed eating there and having Sue entertain us. She could surely serve a glass of wine filled to the brim and not spill a drop! You all became my friends and I was always happy when I had the chance to run into her and catch up on the family. We are keeping all of you in our thoughts and prayers.

  2. Remembering Sook Fong with love and gratitude. We will miss her always.
Sending comfort and our deepest sympathies to the family.

  3. Dear Mr. Lee, Danie, Sharon, and the rest of the Lee Family,

Ms. Sue is wonderful, caring and humorous Lady. I met Ms. Sue and Mr. Kam as a customer of the China Inn. At first I didn’t understand all her jokes and references, but I knew they were hilarious from her coworkers reactions, As I ate at the China Inn more frequently, I learned to understand and enjoy Ms. Sue’s jokes and humor. Her facial expressions as she told a joke was priceless.

Eventually, Mr. Kam and Ms. Sue became customers of mine as I worked at a local Car dealership. What a lovely couple and great people.

May memories of Ms. Lee fill your hearts with comfort and solace. Peace be with you. I am honored and proud to call the Lees friends.

    Mike Adams

  4. So sorry to find out that Sue left. We had no idea that she was in such poor health. We did not know until I saw someone’s facebook posting today(Tuesday February 10th)
