RALEIGH - Anthony Hammond, age 82, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022. Born in Nash County, NC on February 8, 1940, he was the son of the late Flaye Hammond, II and Mary Ivey Hammond. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Hammond; his sister, Annette Perkinson; and his brother, Flaye Hammond, III.
Anthony was a proud Air Force veteran. He loved aviation and was the youngest solo pilot in his day. Anthony enjoyed spending his downtime fishing, watching fireworks, and going to the beach. Above all, his most cherished memories will be those spent with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him, but his loving spirit will never be forgotten as he was everything to his family.
Anthony is survived by his daughter, Susan Williams and husband, Charles, of Raleigh; his sons, Anthony Hammond, Jr. and wife, Chen, of Rocky River, OH and Robert Hammond and wife, Denise, of Kernersville; his grandchildren, Amanda Hammond, Randy Beckham, Jeannine Palmeter, Jennie Earp, Toni Hammond, Annie Hammond, Maxwell Hammond, Victoria Hammond, Sara Hammond, William Hammond, Alexander Hammond, and Ivey Hammond; and his 7 great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be held Saturday July 9, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Burial following the service at Pineview Cemetery.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made in Anthony's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Tony was my first cousin on his mother’s side. My father and his mother were children of Charles and Sally Ivey. Because my dad died in his forties when I was ten years old, we didn’t see a lot of each other growing up. We became reacquainted through Facebook. I very much enjoyed sharing posts and private messages about our families and current events. I am so sad for his family grieving his loss and pray for their comfort. He loved you so very much and was so proud of you. Rest in peace, Tony.
