Barbara D. Walker

ROCKY MOUNT - Barbara D. Walker, age 81, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2021. Born in Nash County, NC on September 2, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Hatcher and Emily Henderson Dunn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard Battle Walker; her sisters, Ruth Dunn Cherry and Hazel Dunn Gay. Barbara loved to keep her yard looking beautiful, by cutting the grass herself, planting beautiful flowers and working a garden. She was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need, often taking food to the people in need in her community. Barbara loved to visit Atlantic City, going to country music concerts and always danced as if no one was looking. She had a caring spirit and loved to spread Joy to everyone. She was always up to date on current events. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and friend to all that knew and loved her. Barbara is survived by her sons, Johnny Walker and wife, Jane, and Ricky Walker and wife, BJ, all of Rocky Mount; her grandson, Dustin Hale and wife, Tammy; her great- grandson, Nathan Hale; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, March 8, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Pineview Cemetery with the Rev. Allen Mills officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, March 8, 2021 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made in Barbara's memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.   1. Aunt Barbara was one of a kind! Such a thoughtful and caring person…always wanting to help others. She loved her family very much and was so proud of them. I will miss our long talks on the phone. Johnny, Jane, Ricky and BJ – you are all in our thoughts and prayers. We love you all!

  2. Barbara always had sweet smile . I loved way she drove tractor cutting her beautiful grass all the way to bridge and highway. Certainly miss her in church and at YAH meetings.   3. Please accept our condolences on the loss of your mother. Barbara was a beautiful breath of fresh air. Bobby and I enjoyed spending time with her. As an occasional Friday would have it, we were blessed to reach McDonald’s around the same time and enjoy a biscuit and coffee together. She had a gift for brightening your day. We will miss her!!   4. I am so sorry to hear of Barbara’s passing. She was a fine lady and I thought alot of her in school as well as an adult. She will be missed.

  5. Johnny and Ricky I am so very sorry for the loss of your mom. I had the pleasure of meeting her through your dad when I started working at Eastern Electric many years ago. She was such a sweet lady and always smiling and laughing. I pray for God’s strength to get you through this.

  6. I was very sorry to hear of Barbara’s passing. My momma and me lived across the street from her and her family for many years. She was a good friend to us and she will be missed. Johnny and Ricky, you are in my prayers.
