Elda Ray Alford

ELM CITY - Elda Ray Alford, age 80, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2022. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on September 12, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Richard Lee Hathaway, Sr. and Fannie Hathaway. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Sarah Barbee, Helen Ethridge, and Darlene Harris; and her brothers, Robert Lee Hathaway, Richard Lee Hathaway, Jr., and George Hathaway. Elda Ray also known as "Elvira", loved to entertain and put a smile on people's faces. She was a member of the Lions Club and the Women's Auxiliary. She loved to attend the senior dances. Elda Ray loved gardening and always had beautiful flowers in her yard. She will be deeply missed. She made a difference in the life of everyone who knew her and she leaves behind a tremendous legacy of life, love, and laughter. Elda Ray is survived by her daughter, Susan Johnson and husband, Mitchell, of Pinetops; her son, Kenneth Alford and wife, Janice, of Elm City; her grandchildren, Wade Alford and wife, Vicki, Neil Alford, Dillon Johnson, Travis Johnson, and Elisha Johnson; her great-granddaughter, Anna Alford; and many nieces and nephews. A special gathering with the family will be on Thursday, June 9, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the parlor of Johnson Funeral Home.
