Elizabeth "Betsy" Mae Odom Winstead

ROCKY MOUNT - Elizabeth (Betsy) Mae Odom Winstead, age 91, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022. Born in Warren County, NC on October 27, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Stephen P. and Beaufort B. Odom. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Bryson Winstead; her sister, Ellen Odom; and her brother, Ray Odom. Betsy was born again March 11, 1971 into the family of Jesus Christ our Lord. Betsy met R.C. Winstead in the spring of 1956, and they married November 16, 1956. They have had 65 years 6 months of marriage together. Early in their marriage Betsy showed loving patience but was persistence, encouraging her husband to go to church with her where he heard the Word of salvation and was saved. She was a true and faithful witness for The Lord Jesus Christ. Her attending physician put in her medical records that Betsy witnessed to her about salvation through Jesus Christ. Betsy loved her family and always sought opportunities to have everyone over for a family gathering for a meal. She was a Godly woman who worked hard to provide what was best for her family. Proverbs 31:10-31 described her demeanor. Betsy's favorite scripture was Isaiah 53 and Romans 1:16. On all her correspondences she wrote Romans 1:16 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek." Betsy is survived by her husband of 65 years, R.C. Winstead; her daughter, Paula Langley (Steven); her sons, Timothy R. Winstead (Martha), and Phillip A. Winstead (Kristen); her grandchildren, Nicole Brockwell (Van), Logan Langley (Jamie), Elizabeth Godwin (Brandon), Timothy Winstead (Lauren), Rebecca Kimbrough (Luke), and Ashley Payne (Michael); her great-grandchildren, Sophie, Jack, and Evan Brockwell, Emma, Lilliana, and Waylon Langley, Charlotte, Madeleine, and Louis Godwin, Brooks and Maddie Jane Winstead, and Jaxon Payne; and her sister, Katherine Sandusky. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Westview Baptist Church, 3408 Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Pastor Bill Coffey and Pastor Mark Hurley officiating. A visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service in the Sanctuary of Westview Baptist Church.
