Fred Thomas Crocker age 85 went home to be with the Lord on December 22, 2018 wrapped in the arms of his loving wife.Born in Edgecombe County, NC on September 22, 1933 to the late Ottis Lathan Crocker and Elizabeth Haislip Crocker. He is predeceased by five brothers and four sisters.
Fred leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 66 years, Mary Proctor Crocker, daughter, Joyce Crocker Reid, son John Thomas (Tommy) and wife Julie; grandchildren, Mary Reid Nicks and husband Robert, Spencer Crocker and McKenzie Crocker; great grandson, Holden Nicks; brothers, Herbert Crocker and wife Gloria, Donald Crocker and wife Ellen, and any nieces and nephews.
Fred worked at Rocky Mount Mills for many years. He was a carpet installer for Howard Andrews at Carpetland and also worked for Hardees Area II in Raleigh NC. He was an active member of Nashville Baptist Church and enjoyed fellowship with his church family. He was also a long time member of North Rocky Mount Baptist Church.
Fred enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. With his wife and several friends, he played gospel music at various churches and rest homes in the area. He was a founding member of the Hardees Hometown Opry Band playing bluegrass music at Hardees on Hwy. 301 in Rocky Mount. This group was featured on a segment of WRALs Tarheel Traveler.
Fred loved Gods creation and spent many hours in his gardens. He grew vegetables for his family and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labors with his friends. He found hours of pleasure cultivating his flowers and watching them bloom.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday December 28, 2018 at 11:00, at Nashville Baptist Church in Nashville, NC with Reverend Kenny Byrd officiating.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Nashville Baptist Church or a charity of choice.
