Gideon Alston Burgess

Pinetops - Gideon Alston Burgess, Jr. “G.A.”, age 79, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2016. He is preceded in death by his parents Gideon Alston Burgess Sr. and Mayattrice Greene Burgess. He was also preceded in death by his brother, John Lovatt Burgess, sister, Helen Burgess Reynolds, brother-in-law, Irving Reynolds, sister-in-law, Shirley Beaudry Burgess and son-in-law, Joseph Scott Thorne. Gideon leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 56 years Carrie Pollard Burgess his two daughters, Bridget Burgess Thorne and Althea Ellen Burgess. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Lee “Bob” Burgess, sister-in-law, Diane Spicer Burgess, one nephew and three nieces. Gideon is also survived by close friends, Mary Ann Gardner, Phillip Carraway, John Ed Lancaster and Willie Gray “Jimmy” Harris. G.A. was a loving husband and father. He worked hard throughout his life to provide for his family. He enjoyed driving, the faster the better, he tried hard to stay within the speed limit as he got older. G.A. was a friend to many, anyone he saw in need he would do what he could, including providing the a home. He touched the lives of countless people. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church, 6393 Faith Baptist Church Road, Pinetops, NC with a visitation following the service.
