Herbert G. Moore

ROCKY MOUNT – Herbert G. Moore, age 85, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024. Born in Nash County, NC on October 24, 1938, he was the son of the late Amos Ernest Moore and Myrtle Bedgood Moore. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Willie Lou, Evelyn, Pauline, Lucille; brothers, Milton, Russell, Bobby. Herbert was a long-time member of Westview Baptist Church. He never met a stranger and always had a story to tell. Herbert enjoyed going hunting or watching Nascar cheering on his favorite driver Richard Petty. Herbert also led the fight against Rocky Mount to not be annex into city limits. He made many trips to and from Raleigh trying to get the laws changed for the Oak Level Community. Herbert would ride around the community on his golf cart passing out flyers to keep the community informed. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Herbert is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marie C. Moore; daughter, Cyndi Tippett (Jay); sons, Craig Moore (Terri), Carlton Moore; grandchildren, Travis Moore, David Moore, Austin Moore, Noah Tippett; great-grandchildren, Mason Moore, Haven Moore; special friends, Michael Harper, Wayne Outlaw, Ronald, and Johnny. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 30,2024 at 11:00 AM at Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 661 English Road Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Pastor Mark Hurley officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. A visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service in the Chaple of Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Herbert’s memory to The Lodge of Rocky Mount, 3322 Village Road Rocky Mount, NC 27804. Arrangements entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.   1. Gorham was always cheerful and joking. He was my sweet daddy’s cousin, James Elvin loved him so. May he be reunited with all his love ones gone on before. Prayers of comfort for all the family.

  5. I have a memory of him that holds a special place in my heart and home. He made a piece of furniture for my mother that I have in my dinning room. He was a very talented and good hearted man. My parents thought so much of him and his lovely wife. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all!
