ROCKY MOUNT– Jean M. Joyner, age 95, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on September 1, 1928, she was the daughter of the late J.L. Mears and Lessie Daughtridge Mears. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jake Joyner; her son, Van Joyner; her sister, Mary Jo Pennington; and her brothers, J.D. Mears, Bob Mears, and Dan Mears.
A woman of great faith, Jean was a long-time member of Englewood Baptist Church. She loved baking, especially cakes and pies. Jean also enjoyed working on needlework crafts. She will be deeply missed. Jean made a difference in the life of everyone who knew her, and she leaves behind a tremendous legacy of life, love, and laughter.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Drake, of New Bern, NC, Sue Ellen Battle (Bruce), of Raleigh, NC; her son, Jeff Joyner (Robin), of Rocky Mount, NC; her grandchildren, Jed Drake (Renee), Carrie Ipock (Derrick), Jessica Olson (Chris), Morgan Bundy (Matt), Jackson Battle (Evelyn), Jeanie VandeGuchte (Mark), Jake Battle (Nicole), and Kelsey Joyner; 12 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Faye Southerland (Bob), of Raleigh, NC.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregiver and friend, Tabitha Jones.
A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Rev. Charles Taylor officiating. A visitation with the family will follow the service at the graveside.

I didn’t know you very much man fact I knew you more through your granddaughter and my son I’m so very sorry for the family but memories are forever and I know you will cherish them forever .

I became friends with Bonnie & Eddy when they lived in Rocky Mount & I worked with Bonnie at People’s Bank. I remember Jed & Carrie as children. More recently, I delivered Meals On Wheels to Mrs. Joyner when I worked that route. She was such a sweet lady. I am so sorry for your loss.
