  1. To the Family of Jeffrey Earl Chilson,

I was deeply saddened to learn of Jeff’s passing. Please accept my sincere condolences during this difficult time.

Jeff was not only a dedicated co-worker but also a cherished friend. I had the privilege of knowing him for over 25 years, and we worked almost side by side at the Old Dominion University Police Department for nearly two decades. His contributions as a police officer, bike officer, and detective were marked by professionalism, integrity, and quiet strength. He served with honor and always led by example.

It pains me to share that the ODU Police Department was not notified of Jeff’s passing. While this was heartbreaking to many of us who served with him, I understand that Jeff was a deeply private person. It’s likely he never asked his family to reach out to the agency, and I respect that choice.

Jeff’s legacy lives on in the memories of those who worked with him and in the lives he touched through his service. More than anything, I will remember him as a loyal friend—steadfast, thoughtful, and always true to himself.

May you find comfort in knowing how deeply he was respected and loved by his colleagues.

    With sympathy and respect,

    Marc Ross Huckless
    Retired Police Sergeant
    Old Dominion University Police Department
