ELM CITY – Kenneth Wayne Batts, age 69, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on January 20, 1954, he was the son of the late Richard Earl Batts and Drucilla Turner Batts. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Michael Batts.
Wayne loved riding his motorcycle, playing pool and tinkering with his electronics. He loved his pets, his 18 year old cat, Gracie, Annie, Halfpint and Emma. Above all, Wayne was a family man where he loved spending time with his family, especially playing with his grandkids as they were his world. He will be deeply missed. He made a difference in the life of everyone who knew and loved him, and he leaves behind a tremendous legacy of life, love and laughter.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Deborah Batts; his sons, Christopher Batts, and wife Darlene, of Rocky Mount, and Nicholas Batts, and wife Kandice, of Rocky Mount; his daughters, Lisa Sigurdson, and husband Brian, of Wilson, and Suzanne Anderson, and husband Dylan, of Tarboro; his grandchildren, Rebecca Jones (Linwood), Aaron Gamble, Jessie Batts, Nicholas Batts, Kayleigh Kantorowski, Brianna Sigurdson, Taylor Sigurdson, Jase Sigurdson, Caleb Anderson, and Daniel Anderson; his great-grandchildren, Karsyn Clanton, Nylah Jones and Tobias Gamble; his brother Tony Batts; his sister, Brenda Boone, and husband Burt: his brothers-in-law, David Walker, and wife Terry, Johnnie Owens, and wife Blinda, and Gregg Owens, and wife Janice; and his best friends, Dennis Harrell, and Fred Bailey.
A Celebration of Wayne’s Life will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Dylan Anderson officiating.

Fond memories of going to the lake in our younger days, the boat motor got stuck in reverse and we had to return to land going backwards !
Another funny event was when his Dad whom we knew as Dick had a service station downtown Rocky Mount . His brother Tony was checking a radiator and playing drums on it with a screwdriver which slipped out of his hand into radiator hole ! Tony became a drummer for the Velvaderes dance band in the 70’s
