Lynwood Bollie Joyner

April 30, 1934 ~ November 25, 2017

Lynwood Bollie Joyner would like to inform you of his heavenly departure. He completed his lifes work at the age of 83. On November 25th, 2017, Less than 24 hrs. after attending his wifes funeral, his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, called him home. Although he has left this earthly realm, the memory of his well-lived life remains. Lynwood was born April 30th, 1934 to Nathan Gravly and Bessie Gray Joyner of Rocky Mount. He was one of eight children (Myrtlene Joyner Braswell, Marvin Joyner, Herman Joyner, Ocie Joyner Parker, Alvin “John” Joyner, Selby Joyner, and Vernon Wallace.) After graduating from Elm City High School in 1952, he served two years in the United States Army. He married the love of his life, Miriam Elizabeth Landen Joyner in 1959 and became a father to his only son, Todd Joyner in 1964. Lynwood was employed as a supervisor at Burlington Industries until 1978 and later retired in 1996 from the engineering department of the city of Rocky Mount. He committed his retirement to fun and play with his only grandson, Jacob and was lovingly called “Papa”. Lynwood was an active member of Union Missionary Baptist Church for over 40 years serving as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Not only was he a generous, benevolent man; but also, a faithful husband, devoted father, encouraging father-in-law, and caring grandfather. He was a helpful friend to those fortunate enough to know him. Preceding him in death are his parents (Nathan and Bessie Joyner), his siblings, (Myrtlene, Marvin, Herman, Ocie, John, and Selby), and his wife (Miriam). Surviving him are a brother, Vernon Wallace (wife Barbara Ann); a son, Todd Joyner (wife Lynn Joyner) and grandson, Jacob. He leaves behind many friends and extended family that will miss his smile. Visitation is scheduled Monday November 27th, 2017 from 6:00 - 7:30 PM at Johnson Funeral Home in Rocky Mount. A graveside service is planned November 28th, 2017 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Union Missionary Baptist Church.
