Raleigh– Margaret Ann Landen, age 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2022 surrounded by her closest family, after a brief illness. Born in Nash County, NC on May 27, 1945, she was the youngest of four children of the late Sherrod Newsome Landen, Sr. and Mildred Louise Williams Landen. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Landen; and her brother, Sherrod Newsome Landen, Jr.While growing up in Rocky Mount, Margaret and her family were members of the First United Methodist Church and she had many fond memories of her time there. She graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School, where she was a member of the cheerleading team, the Good Sports Club, and other groups. She enjoyed her high school years in Rocky Mount and made lifelong friends with whom she kept in close touch, many until her passing.Margaret briefly attended Atlantic Christian College before meeting John Donald Coffin, whom she married on December 20, 1963.After marrying, she and Don lived in Asheville, NC, before settling in Raleigh. While in Raleigh, they had daughters Paige and Leigh Ann and though they divorced many years later, she and Don always remained good friends.Margaret enjoyed a lifelong career in the travel and airline industries. She began her career at a travel agency in Raleigh, later working for Eastern, Delta, and Piedmont (US Air) airlines. She loved working for the airlines, and many of her co-workers became lifelong friends. Later in life, her primary joy was being a grandmother to her five granddaughters. She especially loved spending time with and babysitting them when they were young.Margaret is survived by her daughter, Paige Coffin Peden and husband, Stevenson Browne Peden (Steven), of Raleigh, their daughters, Eva Browne Peden, of Raleigh and Lila Williams Peden, of Greenville, NC; her daughter Leigh Ann Coffin Kerr and husband, Edwin William Kerr III (Will), of Raleigh, their daughters, Ann Landen Kerr, of Raleigh, Frances Starling Kerr, of Raleigh, and Margaret Louise Kerr, of Fort Worth, TX; her brother, Charles Nicholson Landen, of New Bern; former Sister-in-law, Billie Parrish Landen, of New Bern, their children, Beth Landen Hungiville, Chip Landen, and family; her former brother-in-law, Dan Baker, of Charlotte; niece Lynn Baker; and nephews, John Baker, Brent Baker, and family.A Graveside Service will be held at Pineview Cemetery, date of service to be announced.Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made in Margaret’s memory to either UNC Health Foundation, 123 West Franklin Street, Suite 510, Chapel Hill, NC 27516 or Alzheimer’s Association – Eastern North Carolina Chapter, 5171 Glenwood ave., Raleigh, NC 27612.Arrangements entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
