Martha Joyner Adkins

Martha Joyner Adkins, age 101, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at home. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on October 31, 1915, she was the daughter of the late William Dorsey Joyner and Martha Caroline Hales Joyner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, E.E. “Knocker” Adkins. Martha leaves behind to cherish her memory, two sons; E.E. “Tommy” (Gaelynn) and W.J. “Billy” Adkins (Jennie). She is also survived by three grandchildren, Susan Jaime (Horne), Emily Brooke (Kirchner), Elizabeth Ann (Law) and five great grandchildren. The family would like to thank her special longtime caregiver Rachel Leonard. Martha was a lifelong Rocky Mount resident and a member of First United Methodist Church Rocky Mount. She was a graduate of Rocky Mount High School and a graduate of Meredith College. A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 28, 2016 at Pineview Cemetery at 11:00 AM. A visitation will follow after the service at First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or Nash Hospice.
