ROCKY MOUNT - Maxine G. Bunn, 99, left this life March 9th, 2021.
Born and raised in Nash County, she was pre-deceased by her husband Carl after 50 years of marriage. Maxine was the last survivor of eight siblings and is survived by three children and three grandsons.
As a devout Christian and a lifelong member of the Southern Baptist Church, she gave her time and energy to many activities including volunteering in the church library, visiting the homebound, and delivering Meals on Wheels. Maxine was just as dedicated and dependable in the workplace serving as a secretary and a bookkeeper. In her leisure time, she greatly enjoyed bridge and was a longstanding member of two clubs. They played for the joy of socializing, not for the prize of a jar of peanuts. During her retirement years, she crocheted, embroidered, and even tried her hand at needlepoint. Also, many happy hours were spent playing Rummikub and Farkle with friends and family around the dining room table. But she always said she was most at peace while washing dishes by hand at her kitchen sink.
Throughout her life, she developed close friendships in every place she lived and worked. She treasured her friends and family who always knew exactly where she stood on matters. They will miss her. Maxine was a firm believer in personal responsibility-one could always count on her to do what she said she would do. She often recited a quote she learned from her mother, "Every tub sits on its own bottom." Another oft-used quote was learned from her aunt, "It tis and it ain't no tisser."
At Maxine's request, please donate to Meals on Wheels of Rocky Mount in lieu of flowers. The address is PO Box 7611, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

Maxine was a dear friend whom I cherished. We worked in the library many hours. Visits with her at home were delightful. She was so dependable, trustworthy, generous, a good cook when she was able, and a good friend. She was a fighter and spoke her mind to the good of all. I was her Sunday School teacher as long as she was able to go. I regret not being able to visit her more for the last year, and will always remember her and love her. Jean Holding
