Merry Lane Robinette

ROCKY MOUNT - Merry Lane Slater Robinette, age 70, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022. Born in Mansfield, OH on September 13, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Roger Slater and Mary Childress Slater. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Janice and Dianna. Merry was employed by Sprint, in 2003, Merry was transferred with Sprint to Rocky Mount where she worked until her retirement. Merry loved to travel, which she did a lot of in her early years. She loved listening to music and going out to eat. She was an accomplished organist, as she played for the Diamond Hill Cathedral in Mansfield, OH for many years. She attended Ridgecrest Worship Center in Rocky Mount. She became part of the music ministry playing the organ, which she enjoyed very much. When her health started to decline, she had to quit the music ministry and ultimately had to stop attending church as her health worsened. Merry was a diabetic and had kidney failure. She had to go to dialysis three times a week. She also had open heart surgery and two other major surgeries. After falling at home and injuring her shoulder, she ended up having to go to The Lodge, assisted living facility, where she resided for 15 months until she passed away. Merry is survived by her sister, Nancy Barry, of Ohio; her brother, David Slater and wife, Donna, of California; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends, including Betty Blanton and Dale Green.   1. Merry was a vital, important part of our ministry in Mansfirld, Ohio before moving to Rocky Mount because of her job. She was an organist beyond compare! She used her wonderful gift to glorify her Lord Jesus Christ. I’m sure she is playing music for Him this very moment. See you later my friend!!

  2. My dear friend. You were such a special lady. I will always treasure our friendship. We both had to leave our homes and move to North Carolina for our jobs, which brought us together. And though I gave you a hard time in the beginning, you could come back and hold your own with my foolishness. Both of realizing we were two birds of a feather. I will miss you my dear friend. Until we meet again. I love you.
