Murray Eugene Holland

ROCKY MOUNT - Murray Eugene Holland, age 92, passed away and went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 19, 2021. Born in Wilson County, NC on October 9, 1929, he was the son of the late Eddie Monroe Holland and Anna Thorne Holland. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Thelma Williams, Irene Messer, and Beulah Cooke; and his brothers, Clemmon Holland, Edgar Holland, Ollie Holland, and Tom Holland. Eugene was a proud U.S. Army veteran having served in Korea, and receiving five metals during his service. He was a lover of sports, especially baseball. Eugene loved doing yardwork and working in his flowers. He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time fishing. Eugene was a very humble person and never complained. He was a family man, and extremely proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved nothing better than spending time with them. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Eugene is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Jean Holland; his daughter, Vickie Kay Holland Coggin, of Rocky Mount; his son, Ronnie Eugene Holland (Kelly), of Rocky Mount; his grandchildren, Jennifer Nicole "Nikki" Coggin Jacquez (Josh), Michael Eugene Holland (Kimberly), Jessica Paige Holland Garrett (Lucus), Brandi Victoria Coggin (Jonathan), and Andrew Thomas Holland; his great-grandchildren, Savannah Paige Kelley, Kayleigh Mae Duarte, Bentley Ray Kelley, Remington Aaron Garrett, Gracie Ann Marie, and Brianna Nichole; and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service to celebrate Eugene's life will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Michael Johnson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Pineview Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service at Johnson Funeral Home. Flowers are welcome.
