ROCKY MOUNT - Selby Lee Joyner, age 84, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2017.
Selby Lee Joyner was born on May 8, 1932 in Rocky Mount North Carolina to Nathan Gravly and Bessie Gray Joyner. He has two sons; Dean of Greensboro NC and Brandon of Rocky Mount. He is survived by two brothers Lynwood Bollie Joyner and James Vernon Wallace of Rocky Mount, and good friend and first cousin Carson Weaver of Rocky Mount along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Selby is preceded in death by his parents along with sisters Myrtlene Braswell and Ocie Parker and brothers Marvin, John and Herman.
On September 12, 1951 Selby joined the United States Navy and served as a Seaman First Class until he was honorably discharged on April 11, 1955.
Selby was an excellent salesman and had a wide experience working in retail over the years. He was fun loving, quick witted and in years earlier could play a guitar to the delight of his family and friends. Selby was regarded by those who knew him as a generous, caring and loving son, father, brother, uncle and friend to all who had the honor of knowing him.
A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Pineview Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives following the service at the Cemetery.
