Shirley Gray Duke Staton

Shirley Gray Duke Staton, age 84, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2020. Born in Nash County, NC on January 11, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Viola Duke. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Wiley Staton; brothers, WC Duke, Dewey Duke, Swindell Duke, Kenneth Duke; and sister, Virginia Moss. Shirley leaves behind to cherish her memory, sons, Eugene Staton and wife Lisa of Amarillo, TX and Dennis Staton and wife Sue of Spring Hope, NC. She is also survived by granddaughter, Jamie Staton Valentine and husband Michael of Nashville, NC, grandsons, Benjamin Staton and wife Micah of Denton, TX, Evan Staton of Amarillo, TX and a very special great-grandson, Jasper William Valentine of Nashville, NC, and sister, Frances Dunn of Nashville, NC. Shirley retired from Schlage Lock and Abbott Laboratories. After retirement she and her husband enjoyed many years of camping with Twin County Sam's club. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The family wishes to thank the staff of Spring Arbor and the staff of Trinity Retirement Villas and Brandi Dawes for the care they provided, also special thanks to Dr. Shandal Emanuel and her staff for their dedication to Shirley and to Community Hospice. The family is grateful for the compassion shown by Ajavual Farmer, Melissa Crusenberry, Tiffany Kent and Norma Richardson. A heartfelt thank you to Sarah Perry who diligently cared for Shirley for 4 years. A service will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park in the Chapel of memories mausoleum at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Steve Kirkland and Chaplain Ricky Forkum officiating.
