Thelma Lee Wright Taylor, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, foster mother, friend and helper to many, faithful wife, and humble servant of Jesus Christ passed away Sunday, October 7, 2018. She wanted to make it to 100 and SHE DID IT.
Thelma was born on a small farm in South Georgia, the second daughter of Henry Woodfin Wright and Mamie Rogers Wright on March 18, 1918. She lived through the roaring twenties, the great depression, the death of her mother at age 13, World War II and subsequent wars, the birth of five children, the death of her husband, Raymond Anderson Taylor and four beloved sisters (Rena, Elva, Doris and Ruth), the great flood of 1999 and subsequent loss of her home of 50 years, the turn of the century, and September 11, 2001. She was a consummate survivor. She always knew that the Lord was with her in every circumstance and accepted His will and purpose for her life. She liked to say “Ill be alright”. And she finally is All Right.
Thelma was a caretaker. She believed that God put her on this earth to take care of others. First, she was the primary caregiver of her brother and sisters after the death of her mother at age 13. Then she cared for her husband and five children, as well as nieces and nephews, in-laws, out-laws, cousins, neighbors, co-workers, grandchildren, friends and, sometimes even strangers in dire circumstances.
Thelma is survived by her five children: Raymond Lee Taylor and wife Dale of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Ralph Charles Taylor and fiance Debbie Lewis of Columbia, SC; Marilyn Taylor Boone of Dortches, Bobby Wayne Taylor and wife Rebecca of Blythewood, SC; and James Eldon Taylor and wife Hilda of Willow Springs NC, 13 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren; Also left to remember are her only surviving sister, Hannah Collins of Aster, Florida and her only brother Hubert of San Jose, California, plus numerous nieces and nephews, who will certainly miss “Aunt Thelmas Hilarious Stories” about coming of age in South Georgia during the depression, living in a two bedroom farm house with nine children and Grandpa Wright, a 76 year old widower, as their caretaker. Those experiences would have made a great sitcom. We might have called it the “Wright Way”.
A celebration of Thelmas life will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Home, with visitation at 1:00 pm, service at 2:00 pm and burial to follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Rev. Brandon Dees of Calvary Baptist Church will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

Please accept our deepest condolences for your family’s loss.
My favorite memory of Aunt Thelma was her live for me and secondly, her favorite story to tell about me sunbathing on my grandmothers roof. She will be missed.
A very memorable and well written obituary for a very unique lady. I have missed Ms Taylor and Hannah, two memorable and loving women. A bow and applause to them and The Taylor Family.
Miss Thelma would get that twinkle in her eyes and tell a story, then wink and grin. She was unfailingly positive…Im doin alright. What an inspiration. What a glorious reunion she is having in heaven. I am blessed to have known her. Love to all…Leslie Thomas
I will always love my Aunt Thelma…..she was very special to me and when my Granny Rena Ellis was sick she stayed by her side and took care of her.
