William Roy Wadsworth

BATTLEBORO - William Roy Wadsworth, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2020. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on January 1, 1930, he was the son of the late William Lewis and Ida Turner Wadsworth. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Irene E. Wadsworth; son, Raymond William Wadsworth; sisters, Eula W. Summerlin and Mattie W. Pigg; brothers, Johnny R. Wadsworth, George A. Wadsworth and Edward Wadsworth. William served his country in the Army National Guard. He retired from his trade of construction where he built many homes over the years. William was a carpenter and loved to create many master pieces. These he shared with his family and friends. Some of his favorite past times were traveling with the love of his life, Irene and listening to country music and watching Nascar on television. He was a life-long member of Speight Chapel Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, teaching them all the great things he knew. He will forever be remembered with fond memories by his family. William is survived by his sons, Marvin R. Wadsworth and is wife, Billie and Billy Joe Wadsworth and his wife, Sandy, all of Battleboro; his daughters, Patricia Wadsworth of Rocky Mount, Evelyn W. Varnell of Wilson and Clara Ann Gay and her husband, David of Selma; his step-children, Linda E. Hunt and husband, Billy of Zephyr Hills, Fl, William L. Edwards, Jr. of Roanoke Rapids, Michael W. Edwards and his wife, Cathy of Archer Lodge. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great- great grandchild; daughter-in-law, Brenda Wadsworth of Whitakers and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Mike Edmundson officiating. A burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service on Friday, October 23, 2020 from 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM at Johnson Funeral Home.
