On Sunday, September 4, 2022, Wilma Campbell Denton, 86, formerly of Nashville, NC, went to heaven to be with the Lord. She is preceded in death by her mother Mamie Creel Campbell and her husband Moses A. Denton. She had resided with her daughter, Jacqueline Pearson, in The Plains, VA for the last two years.After college, Wilma worked for Burlington Industries in Rocky Mount NC as a secretary for the planning and engineering departments. She had over 25 years of service when the plant closed. She then went on to work for several other companies including CECO and Granutec, Inc. Her last job was with the Harold D. Cooley Library in Nashville before her retirement at age 83. She enjoyed her time at the library and the children and staff were like her second family.Wilma was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed singing in the choir, helping with vacation bible school and in the nursery. She loved reading the Bible and listening to CDs of previous services. While in Nashville NC, Wilma performed with the Senior dance group and was part of the Book Club. She was a person who enjoyed being “ON THE GO,” going to the beach, or dancing with her friends to their favorite band. She brought JOY to those around her with her beautiful spirit.Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Germaine Riddle and husband Gary, their children Christopher, Michael, David, Scott, and Glenn; her daughter Jacqueline Drake Pearson and husband Roger, Jacqueline’s children, William Drake III, and wife Lori, Jonathan, Forrest, and Anastasia Drake, and her great-grandchildren, Liam and Owen, sons of William and Lori; and her son Moses A. Denton Jr., and his son, Moses A. Denton III. Also, her dear friend and companion Joseph Rocco of Nashville, NC.A Celebration of Life will be held on Oct 1, 2022, at 1PM at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 9853 East Highway 97, Rocky Mount NC 27803. I will miss Granny forever. She had a kind heart for the people in her community and her church. She definitely was a lady always “ON THE GO” and made sure she brought her Diet Coke everywhere she went two. She knew how to keep things in place, neat and organized and had expansive knowledge about subjects she enjoyed. I really appreciate how much she took me the ball games, she played sports for a while.
