ROCKY MOUNT – Alberta “Bertie” Baddour Shehdan, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on May 25, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Alice Baddour. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Phil Shehdan; sister, Mariam Ward, and brother, Shae Baddour.
Bertie married Phillip Louis Shehdan and they made their home in Raleigh, NC. Bertie had a love for antiques and always decorated her home in Williamsburg style. She had a special love for Christmas, decorating with only live greenery and real candles, but never silver tinsel! She enjoyed many things as antiquing, book clubs, bridge clubs, mahjong club and tole painting. Bertie was the happiest around her family and many friends. She touched the lives of so many people and will always be remembered with love and kindness. Bertie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Her loving spirit will never be forgotten as she was everything to her family.
Bertie is survived by her sons, Phillip, Jr. (Jill), and David (Anne); grandchildren, Phillip, III “Trey” (Elisha), Chad (Mari), and Grace; great-grandchildren, Avery Ruth, Savanna, Luke and Max; and her sister, Jannette (Jan) DiStefano.

Jim and I were so sad to learn of Bertie’s passing. She, Phil, and Jim were old friends, but I still remember the first time I met Bertie. We were walking around a jazz festival at Moore Square and bumped into Phil. He took us over to see Bertie, and we ended up joining them on their blanket for the rest of the day. What lovely people! They both were so warm and dear. It took us too long afterward to start having lunches with them, for we thoroughly enjoyed them. Each time we saw Bertie and Phil was a real treat – lots of shared laughter and memories. They made the world a brighter place.
Fondly, Elizabeth Chastain and Jim Crisp
