Allen "Dean" Lewis

PINETOPS – Allen “Dean” Lewis, age 69, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026. Born in Nash County, NC on October 12, 1956, he was the son of the late Jessie Alton Lewis and Annie Hadnot. He was also preceded in death by his sister Wanda Denton.

Dean will be remembered as a man who loved the simple joys of life and the people he shared them with. A dedicated employee of the City of Rocky Mount, Dean served the community proudly as an Electric Groundman. During his free time, Dean was an avid outdoorsman, he spent countless hours deer hunting and fishing, finding peace and happiness in nature. He was a devoted NASCAR fan who faithfully cheered for Dale Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Chase Elliott, and he never missed an opportunity to support the Tar Heels on the basketball court or the Carolina Panthers on the football field.

One of Dean’s greatest joys was spending time with his son. Together they built and operated a small lawn care business, creating not only a successful venture but also countless memories while cutting grass side by side. Those moments reflected Dean’s hardworking spirit, dedication to family, and love for sharing life’s experiences with those he cherished most.

Dean’s granddaughter Brianna was the apple of his eye. He was so proud of her and loved her dearly.

Dean’s kindness, sense of humor, and love for family and friends will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to call him family and friend.

Allen is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Lewis; son, Jeffrey Lewis (Ashley); granddaughter, Brianna Varnell (Daniel); great-grandson, Baylor Varnell; brothers, Michael Lewis, and Kenneth Lewis; several nieces, nephews and close friends.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 661 English Road Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Pastor Harper officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.  A visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45PM prior to the service in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
