Arletha Hedgepeth Mozingo

August 22, 1944 ~ April 24, 2016

Arletha Hedgepeth Mozingo, 71, of Rocky Mount, NC peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Halifax County, NC on August 22, 1944 to the late Plummer B. Hedgepeth and Rose Ellen Richardson Hedgepeth. She is preceded in death by one son Eric Mozingo; three sisters Reather H. Silver Rudd (Jerry), Lucinda H. Wilkins (Oliver, Sr.), and Janetha H. Liles (Harold); and three brothers York P. Hedgepeth, Horace Hedgepeth, and John P. Hedgepeth. She leaves to cherish her precious memories and to carry on her legacy her husband of forty-nine years, Reotis Mozingo of Rocky Mount, NC; one son, Terrie Mozingo of Morrisville, NC; one daughter Alyssa Mozingo of Knightdale, NC; one grandson, Chance Mozingo; one sister, Sarah H. Mozingo (Milford) of Morrisville, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Arletha graduated from Eastman High School in 1962 before moving to one of her favorite cities, Washington, D.C. A member of St. Johns Baptist Church, Arletha taught Sunday school classes for many years. She retired from Rack Room Shoes in 2009. Arletha enjoyed sewing, gardening, and collecting clocks. Arletha thoroughly enjoyed getting to know people and was loved by all who knew her. A visitation will be held on Wednesday April 27, 2016 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday April 28, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Kenneth B. Richardson officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park located at 4454 Dortches Boulevard, in Rocky Mount, NC. Arletha met and bonded with Darenda while participating in the Relay For Life of Nash County. After many years of remission Arletha lost her battle with cancer but Darenda continues her fight.   1. Arletha was my aunt, my mothers sister. I remember once when we were planning a family gathering and Aunt Arletha was making potato salad. She ran out of potatoes and decided to put apples in the potato salad!! it was delicious!! She was always the one to be creative and fun. I will miss her a lot. Love, Her niece Ann Abraham

  4. Mr. Mozingo, Terrie, Alyssa and Chance – I am so sorry for your loss. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Mrs. Mozingo was always the sweetest, kindest, friendliest person you could ever meet. We are all sad down here. But Mrs. M is happy and whole again! She is now rejoicing to be in Heaven! No more pain, no more suffering. She has reunited with Eric, and other family members, who met her at the Gates and welcomed her home. I pray the Lord will comfort you and help you through this time.
