Barbara Jean Strickland

ROCKY MOUNT – Barbara Jean Strickland, age 78, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026. Born in Nash County, NC on September 25, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Fannie Carthine Smith Boone. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Albert Mack Strickland, Sr.; and sister, Linda Boone Joyner.

Jean was a hardworking and devoted woman who dedicated her life to her family and caring for those she loved. With a strong work ethic, she worked throughout her life and took great pride in providing for and supporting her family.

Jean had a loving and nurturing heart and spent many years caring for her siblings, children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Her family was always her greatest joy, and she treasured every opportunity to spend time with those closest to her.

An avid reader, Jean enjoyed relaxing with a good book and especially loved the works of Danielle Steel, Nora Roberts, and Debbie Macomber.

Jean will be remembered for her hardworking spirit, caring nature, and deep devotion to her family. She touched the lives of many through her kindness and love and will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Theresa Strickland Bullock, (Mike); son, Albert Mack Strickland, Jr., (Jessica); nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Brenda Sue Boone; brothers, Billy “Buck” Boone, Randy Boone, Roger Boone, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, NC  27804. Burial will follow the service at Forest Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
