Bettie Mae Campbell

ROCKY MOUNT - Bettie Mae Campbell, age 84, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on January 1, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Millard M. Davis and Mary Elizabeth Kennedy Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Wilde Campbell; her son, Kelvin Wilde Campbell; her sister, Myrtle Metcalf; her brothers, Steven Davis, Bernice Davis and Pete Davis. Bettie worked for the Newport News Shipbuilding Industry and later went on to work at Cox Direct. She loved gardening and cooking, especially family holiday meals. Bettie also had a love for dancing and playing her guitar. Above all, her most cherished memories will be those spent reminiscing with her brothers, sisters and family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister she will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her, but her loving spirit will be remembered and never forgotten. Bettie is survived by her daughters, Cindy Campbell Tedder and her husband, Philip of Rocky Mount and Sharrie Marie Smith and her husband, Willie of Hampton, VA; her sons, Sherman Grant Campbell of Hampton, VA and Richard Campbell; her grandchildren, Amber Paige Stevens, Amanda May Campbell, Devon Smith and Colby Smith; her great grandchildren, Levi Smith and Grayson Smith; her sister; Elizabeth Cross of Newport News, VA; and her brother, Ray Davis. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 19, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home.   4. I was so sorry to hear of this very loved woman’s passing. My son and I have known Grant for a number of years and I can tell by the way he spoke about his mom that she was someone I wish I could have met. My prayers are with all the family.
