Bill Ames

ROCKY MOUNT – Ralph William Ames, known to family and friends as Bill, was born on January 2, 1942, in Americus, Georgia, and passed away on May 23, 2026, at the age of 84.

Bill dedicated many years of his life working in marketing and advertising before later pursuing a career in real estate. His professional endeavors reflected his creativity, sharp mind, and passion for connecting with people. Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, Bill was a jokester who could bring a smile to anyone’s face and loved sharing a good laugh.

A proud alumnus of the University of Georgia, Bill loved anything associated with his school—the colors, the mascot, and the Bulldog spirit. He was particularly fascinated by history, especially World War II, which he studied avidly through books, documentaries, and research.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Margie Ames, and his brother, Casey Ames.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Faye Ames; his son, Bill Ames of Atlanta, Georgia; his daughter, Amanda Hedgepeth; and his granddaughters, Abby and Avery Hedgepeth. Bill also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Glenda Ames; his sister, Marsha Earnest, and her husband, Ray, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and his brother, John Ames, and wife, Anne, of Atlanta, Georgia.

Visitation will be on Monday June 1st at 2:00pm at Johnson Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service at 3:00pm.

Bill’s warmth, curiosity, humor, and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
