It is with great sadness that the family of Herman Johnson, age 71, beloved husband, father and grandfather announce his passing on September 19, 2018 in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was born August 25, 1947 in Halifax County Virginia to the late Clarence Benjamin Johnson and Enolia Clay Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bernard Wayne Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Buck Johnson; three sons, Byron Scott Johnson (Brandy Proctor), Daniel Christopher Johnson (Katie Johnson), Shaun Michael Johnson (Tonya Johnson); brother Danny Ray Johnson and sister Wendy Johnson Driskill. He is also survived by his five grandchildren - Austin, Alexander, Jeremy, Brooks and Connor - who were the joy of his life.
He was a proud graduate of Virginia Tech and embodiment of its motto Ut Prosim (That I May Serve). He was a tireless contributor to the Rocky Mount community over the past three decades as manager of the Kmart through his retirement in 2005 and active member of the Lions Club until his passing.
Those who desire can make a memorial donation in memory of Herman by following his example of quietly taking care of those in need within your community. To help, to serve, to make things right and not leave it to someone else will honor his memory and the example he set for his children and grandchildren.
