ROCKY MOUNT – David Jay Dunbar, age 79, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023. Born in Hyde County, NC on August 30, 1944, he was the son of the late Joseph Curtis Dunbar and Kathaleen Marie Dunbar. David was what some would call a workaholic. He was always busy doing something. David loved working on trucks and enjoyed going to the drag races. But most of all he loved his family, and he was a king on the grill. David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him, but his loving spirit will never be forgotten as he was everything to his family. David is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joy Jenkins Dunbar; his daughter, Angel Dunbar Lynn and husband Timmy of Morehead City, NC; his son, David Jay Dunbar Jr. of Rocky Mount; grandchildren Destiny Fuller and Jalyn Lynn; great grandchild Gracie Fuller; brothers and sisters. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday December 16, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Parlor of Johnson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in David’s memory to The Cancer Center in Greenville 524 Moye Blvd. Greenville, NC 27834.   1. David and my daddy worked for my cousin at Morgan’s Garage in Sharpsburg years ago. I worked there during summer vacations growing up. David was a hard working man and one cool character. You fought a good fight but now you’re free, free at last from all struggles, pain, and now have a new body in Christ! You will dearly be missed by your loved ones and your memories will remain forever in our hearts.
