ROCKY MOUNT - David Warren Amerson, age 75, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022, after a brief illness. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on December 4, 1946, he was the oldest of three children born to the late Warren George Amerson and Ida Loraine Gupton Amerson. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Walter Earl Amerson.
David served as a Sergeant in the Vietnam War from April 1967 to April 1969. David enjoyed being around people and he loved to talk. He never met a stranger. One of his favorite places to visit was the North Carolina mountains. David retired from Standard Electric Company. After retirement, he had a small home improvement business. David enjoyed building and fixing things. However, his favorite thing to do was spend time with his family… especially his grandchildren.
David is survived by his daughter, Shelia Amerson Kelly (Danny); his sons, David Cowley (Rhonda), and David Wayne Amerson (Sheri); his grandchildren, Daniel Kelly, Olivia Kelly, William Amerson, Jacob Amerson, Jacob Cowley, Luke Cowley, and Matthew Cowley; his great-grandchildren, Leo Cowley and Madeline Mae Cowley; and his sister, Frances Mink.
A Celebration of David's Life was held on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Parkwood Baptist Church, 1731 Hunter Hill Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
