OAK CITY, NC – Dawn M. Collins, age 62, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.  Born in Worcester, MA on January 14, 1963, she was the daughter of the late George Arther Akroyd and Carol Marie Shea Akroyd.

Dawn was a vibrant soul, whose infectious laugh could brighten any room. She possessed a unique blend of sass and strength, tolerating no nonsense while radiating warmth and compassion. Her life was a testament to her dedication to helping others, a calling she pursued with unwavering passion. She faithfully attended Oak City Christian Church, and Dawn’s faith was a guiding light in her life. She found joy in the simple pleasures, cherishing beach trips with her grandchildren, where she created lasting memories. Dawn loved a moose, but held a special love for flamingos, viewing them as a symbol of her mother. Dawn will be deeply missed by those that knew and loved her. Her spirit, characterized by her unwavering kindness and zest for life, will forever remain in our hearts.

Dawn is survived by her sons, Cody Greenwood (Kortney Stewart), and Christopher Greenwood (Mazie Davis); grandchildren, Aidan, Allie, Cody Jr., Kayson, Christopher Jr., Winter; sisters, Marjorie Curtis, and husband, Ralph Curtis, Sunshine Lawson, Kim Ruth; brother, George Arthur Akroyd; many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Oak City Christian Church, 310 W. Commerce Street Oak City, NC 27857.
