Dollie Bell Watkins Casey

November 13, 1932 ~ October 18, 2024

Resided in: Washington, NC

WASHINGTON – Dollie Bell Watkins Casey, age 91, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024.  Born in Nash County, NC on November 13, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Nick and Maggie Bottoms Watkins. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Nettie Pritchard, and Margie Bowen; and brothers, Jesse Watkins, Arthur Watkins, and John Watkins.

Dollie was a steadfast Christian, and an active member of Living Faith Fellowship Church in Rocky Mount for many years, until her decline in health. Her favorite word being “Whatchamacallit”, it was no surprise that when Hershey’s came out with a candy bar named Whatchamacallit, it was indeed her favorite candy bar. Her other favorite words to describe things she couldn’t think of were thingamajig and dumaflachee. Dollie had a love for yellow roses, reminding her of her love for Texas. She was known as a spur of the moment person, and when you were around her, it was never a dull moment. With a love for fishing, her favorite trip was fishing with her Mom. She was still fishing at 91, having many stories to tell.

Dollie is survived by her husband of 22 years, Norman H. Casey; her daughters, Marla Jackson, and husband Raymond, of Houston, Texas, and Debra Cotie, and husband, Micheal, of Shepherd, Texas; sons, Robert Richards, of Pasadena, Texas, Thomas Richards, and wife, Joann, of Lafollette, Tennessee, and David Richards, and wife Christie, of Baytown, Texas; her grandchildren, Todd Cotie, Sr., Darrell Wiggins, Jr., Mindy Hubbell, and husband John, Tracee Tiller, Shera Hensarlings, and husband, Mikel, Thomas Richards, and wife, Stevi, Johnathan Richards, and Christopher Richards; her great-grandchildren, Trent, Samuel, Sydney, Rebecca, Saegan, Carson, Tyson, Evan, Laina, Todd Jr., and Devyn.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Dollie’s life will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Ramon Mizell officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.  Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I’m so sorry that I did not know about this until today (Tuesday 22) I would have loved to have seen Marla, Debra, Tommy, Bobby, and David. I am Jane, Mrs. Ramsey’s granddaughter that lived beside Maggie. I loved when Maggie’s family came to visit, because that meant I had someone to play with. I have such fond memories of the Watkins family, and some really good stories too.

  2. Many years have passed but I will always remember talking with “Miss Dollie” and Mr. Norman when they would come in Kerr Drug store ( Walgreen) in Nashville. They were such a delightful couple.
My prayers of comfort for you at this time.
    Judy Bass
