ROCKY MOUNT - Dottie Barrett, age 83, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home on Sunday, January 16, 2022. Born in Wayne County, NC on July 26, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Trueblood and Hilda Anderson Trueblood. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Chester Barrett.
Dottie was a former ICT coordinator at Warwick High School, where her students became her family, in Newport News, Virginia. She was very involved during her lifetime with patriotic and ancestral organizations, garden clubs, women's clubs, and political clubs. Dottie also played a role in the early years of Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton as her husband, Tom, was the first Dean of Students. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and so much more and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her, but her loving spirit will never be forgotten as she was everything to her family.
Dottie is survived by her daughter, Danette Barrett Webb, of Rocky Mount; her grandchild, Danielle Barrett, of Rocky Mount; her sister, Veryl Trader, of Concord; her nieces, Elaine Harper and Blair Mathis; her cousin, Betty Anderson, and many more cousins.
A private celebration of life will be held at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church memory wall.
The family would like to say a special thanks to Aaron Pico, Lauren, and Community Health and Hospice.
Memorials may be made in Dottie's memory to one's local hospice.

Danette and Danielle, So sorry for your loss. I have many fond memories of times spend with Dottie. She will definitely be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
Prayers for the Barrett family. Dottie was one of my many older Anderson cousins. She dearly loved Dannette and Danielle.
My condolences to the Barrett and Webb families for the loss of your mother and grandmother. Please accept my warm and heartfelt sympathy. Dottie was a mentor to me as I began my employment at Thomas Nelson Community College; over 40 years ago. She displayed the characteristics of a Titus 2 Woman (Titus 23-5). • Always reverent, respectful and humble • Always had positive things to say and up lifting; never slanderous • A teacher of good things • A trainer of younger women • Poised and self-controlled • Pure in spirit and heart • Always giving of herself • A worker at home and in her community • Kind and always willing to go the extra mile, and • Submissive to her late husband, Dr. Thomas C. Barrett Reminiscing and thinking back on the times we spent together, I could not have asked for a better friend and mentor–what a remarkable woman she was-and I will miss her dearly. She not only ‘talked-the-talk, but she also ‘walked the walk’. Elsie Arrington Lewis
